OVERVIEW:
Valerian plant is a flowering plant whose roots are often referred to as "nature's Valium." Valerian is well known for its strong, distinct aroma and although the blossoms are sweetly scented, the root of the plant is more reminiscent of old cheese. Please note that valerian root is highly stimulating to cats. It has a bitter and acrid flavor and is most often taken as a tea, liquid extract or in capsule form shortly before retiring for the night. This non-habit forming herb may help improve sleep, promote relaxation and reduce anxiety because of its variety of antioxidants and compounds. It is often used in bedtime formulas and sleep pillows.
