OVERVIEW:
Amchur, also known as Amchoor or mango powder, is the spice derived from unripe dried mango fruits ground into a powder. This aromatic spice is very popular in India and is used in several Asian cuisines. It provides a fruity tanginess and has the tartness of citrus and all the flavor of its zest.
Amchur has tenderizing qualities similar to lime and lemon juice and is best added at the end of cooking to preserve its flavor. One teaspoon of Amchur can be a substitute for three tablespoons of lemon juice in marinades for meats or vegetables. This spice also enhances the flavor of curries, chutneys, soups desserts.
Amchur powder comprises various health benefits and contains many nutrients including vitamin A, E, and C (in abundance), powerful antioxidants, and dietary fiber. It is also rich in iron. Amchur has properties said to improve the immunity system and the overall health of the body and is also quite beneficial for your skin and hair.
