The hibiscus plant, also commonly known as rosemallow or roselle, is native to Africa and belongs to the mallow family which is the same family as cocoa, cotton, and okra. The vibrantly colored flowers with a fragrant aroma have a smooth, sweet but tangy, pomegranate-like flavor. The versatility of its gorgeous deep pink color and its flavor gives it value not only in the culinary world but also commercially as a natural-dye and in personal care products. 

 

Hibiscus flowers are the main ingredient in many wonderfully refreshing teas and various alcoholic beverages made around the world. It adds a wonderful flavor to savory sauces and marinades. The possible recipes with hibiscus flowers are endless with syrups, jams, preserves, and baked goods. 

 

Hibiscus flowers are nutritionally dense associated with many health benefits. The most well-known benefit is its ability to lower high blood pressure. Hibiscus contains high concentrations of antioxidants and along with vitamins A and C, it also contains several B-vitamins and minerals.
